A Cardboard Box Masterpiece

What do you get when you combine, 2 snowed in kids, 1 bored mama (with no TV or computer!), 2 cardboard boxes, and a little creativity? An over-the-top cardboard box doll house! See for yourself...

This little beauty comes complete with a spraypainted exterior, custom wall paper, a swimming pool, and a set of beautiful french doors leading to a private deck.  :) What can I say?! I was really bored!

Here's a few other images from our indoor adventure...
And probably one of my favorite moments of our entire week indoors was when Hallie came busting out of her room laughing and smiling like this... what a nut!

Ms. Fix It

We've got a regular little IKEA factory going on in our house right now, and Hallie couldn't wait to help out with Mommy and Daddy's new nightstands.  Three little words never sounded so cute as they do coming from this little girl's mouth... "Hallie fix it."  Thanks Hal, you're hired!  You bring on that little plastic hammer and let's see what you can do!

Pickin' da fuzzies

Tuesday, February 23, 2010

Our first snow at the new house, back then snow was pretty cool, in fact I, lover of warm weather, even enjoyed it.  Daddy made the kiddos a snowman and I made snow angels.  Micah warmed up to the snow finally, and even braved walking on it once or twice without freaking out because he had snow on his shoes (neat freak I'm tellin' ya! NO clue where he gets it from!) Hallie laughed the entire time, throwing snowballs and trekking through the snow.  The sun was shining... it was good fun!

Then Monday morning daddy left for the week and on Friday "Snowmaggedon" hit leaving us trapped at the end of our little street with 20+ inches of snow. It was looking pretty bleak for us... daddy was gone, our car was buried, neighbors said it took 4 days before they plowed our street after the last large storm, no TV (we got rid of our TV in the move and still haven't bought a new one!), no computer (reason #362 why you haven't seen very much of me lately!), BUT we had food, a 7 inch dvd portable dvd player, a creative mommy, and we had Lis and Bobby (I'm thinking we should make them superhero capes... they are always coming to the rescue!)

By Sunday the main roads were cleared so they braved the craziness and we literally threw the kids on our shoulders and hiked out of our house, through the snow, up the hill to the end of our street where their car was waiting.  We spent a few hours enjoying a change of scenery... it was pure bliss!

Then the reality set in... daddy's flight was canceled Sunday night so we would have to wait until Tuesday.  AND we were still snowed in. AND they were predicting more snow Tuesday and Wednesday.

Tuesday came... flight canceled and the snow came.  Lis and Bobby once again helped us hike out since our street still wasn't plowed and we enjoyed a last minute dinner at IHOP as the snow started to come down.  Tyson's flight was rescheduled for Wednesday, but quickly canceled and rescheduled for Thursday since Wednesday called for blizzard like conditions.

And blizzard like conditions it brought...

We spent most of the day watching out the window, hoping and praying the wind wouldn't knock any branches down and that we would keep power.  Which we so very thankfully did!

With Thursday came hope...  it was sunny out, the drifts in the snow were gorgeous and the airport was open!

I spent as much time outside shoveling as I could (with 2 two-year-olds!)  in hopes that a plow would soon be here!

A little plow came while I was working on this... (which had already been cleared out once!)

And hit another car and got stuck. :( But thankfully it's bigger counterpart was not far behind and we saw this beauty...

We all stood and watched in amazement and unbelief while this beauty cleared our path to freedom!

Thursday was most definitely a great day...

Sky clear.
Walkway clear.
Driveway clear.
Car almost clear.
Street clear.
Runway clear.

AND last but definitely not least a flight which was not canceled!

It wasn't all fun and games, but we feel so thankful we had power the entire time, had plenty of food to eat, and were able to get out between the storms.  Overall, not a week I would chose to relive by any means, but we all survived (somehow!) :) and have a new appreciation for our ability to get out! :)

Train Museum

My mom scored big time when she found a train museum a few towns away that had a special holiday train display. Micah loved every minute. He stood there the entire time, mesmerized by the trains. Our visit was complete with a trip on a full-sized train to the North Pole. We even walked by Santa with no tears and Micah even told Mrs. Claus about the trains. Hallie and Madison loved the visit as well, but Micah was in pure little boy heaven!
