Mini Adventures

When we were in Virginia, we started a tradition of going on drives every weekend and ever since then we've continued that tradition. This past Sunday I took Micah, Hallie and Maddie for a drive. We ended up at Crow Butte this week. The kids had a great time playing in the sand and searching for treasures. I entertained myself by taking pictures. :)

A few weeks ago, we ended up on the Canyon Road outside of Yakima, we played at a campsite, checked out the river, and went on a short hike. To Micah's delight we even had a train pass us and honk at us.

Micah, Hallie and I drove to Dayton several weeks ago and explored the area some. They really wanted to have a picnic even though it was FA-REEZING! I found a place to pull off and we braved the wind for a few minutes and had some cheese and crackers.  It was a fun day, but we greatly missed Tyson.  We explored the town of Dayton, had cookies at a little bakery and browsed around some cute shops.  It was the first time that all 3 of us legitimately enjoyed browsing together in a store.  It was so fun! After our romp around town, we headed out towards the mountains where we accidentally went mud-bogging which was a blast until I realized how stupid it was for me to be by myself with 2 children in the car.  I eventually made it back down the road safely, but learned my lesson- no more solo back road mud bogging!

Sharing sprinkles... Makes me smile :)

Polar Express Fun!

We met Abi and Josh in Hood River for a day of fun on the Polar Express.  They both loved it so much! It was so fun to watch their reactions throughout the entire ride.  Hallie has been terrified of Santa and after seeing him twice already this year, she told me before we went that she was going to sit on Santa's lap.  When Santa came onto our train car, she sat on my lap, I asked her is she was going to sit on his lap, she told me "no, I'll just sit on yours." Well when Santa came to sit down next to us, Micah hopped right on over and told him he wanted the camping set for Christmas. When he was done I set Hallie onto Santa's lap, she timidly told him that she wanted a barbie princess cowgirl with a horse.  She returned to my lap gave me the nervous laugh and told me, "see I told you I'd sit on his lap!"  Micah thought it was great when Hobo Joe came by and touched his nose, but was very concerned when we had to turn around because of Caribou on the tracks, he thought we were going back to the station.  I'm so glad we went this year, Micah is more into the Polar Express now than he has ever been and of course it was fun as always to see Abi and Josh!

The kids and I stopped at Cousin's in the Dalles and had a fun dinner on our way home. We had a great time especially since the restaurant was filled with toy trains, tractors and even a model train at the entry way. It was such a fun adventure for us all!

Point Priest Park

We followed up our Tolmie State Park visit with a visit to Point Priest Park in Olympia.  It was a fun park, but Tolmie seemed to have more treasures for hunting and it didn't have beach nazi's telling you not to dig. Seriously, we weren't there to build castles, just wanting to explore.  Anyway enough said, this part of Olympia is so pretty, urban farms, the Sound... it was great.  We enjoyed swinging and just being out of the house.  I was still hunched over and couldn't walk far so just being out was great!
