Coupon Required: Dairy Queen Blizzards

**Beware EXTREMELY wordy post, with no pics of the chillin's! Proceed with caution!**
I know I've mentioned it before but just if for some reason you forgot :)

I LOVE blizzards.
Love is really probably an understatement.

Specifically I love  Double Fudge Cookie Dough. I seldomly, if ever, break away from this love, I'm sure the other flavors are great, but when you find the thing that makes your world go round, you don't have a choice but to go back for more... and more... and more.

So naturally when I got the email entitled,

"It's Buy One for regular price Get One for 25¢ Blizzard® Treat Week!"

I made immediate plans with my go-to treat (well really my go-to-anything!) buddy, Lis to go get blizzards everyday of the week! So sad Ty is on a strict diet cause he's totally missing out! I could and would have gone twice a day! There's nothing wrong with a freezer full of blizzards right!?

We made it 15 minutes before closing, plenty of time... they close at 9:30... DQ's on the East Coast are sadly lame, they are far and few between, and are found in strip malls. (There's something unsettling about a food joint in a strip mall... I know it's weird, but they kinda freak me out.) Sadly no Grill and Chills found here. :( Ok back to the point, imagine our frustration when we roll up with no coupon ecstatic to get our Ooey Gooey Caramel Brownie and Double Fudge Cookie Dough, because if you notice below in the paragraph copied directly from my Blizzard Fan Club email, it makes a point of saying,

"The best part about it is that there are no coupons to hand in and no memberships to sign."

First of all, the dude (yea, I'm calling him that because he deserves it, that's being nice and I was too upset to do something rational like look at his name tag) rang up our treats for full price and we kindly and excitedly reminded him of the 25¢ deal.   He replies by telling us that, get ready for this cause it's a good one...

"You need a coupon."
We responded genuinely shocked and confused, "Huh? What? The email says no coupon required."
To which he coldly replied, "I know what it says, but we need a coupon for our records."
Again, us being genuinely still shocked and confused, "But the email says No coupon required"
Guy again coldly and with more I work at DQ and don't like it attitude, "I know what it says"
Us a little more frustrated, realizing we may not get our cheap blizzards, but still confused, "Ok well that doesn't make any sense, why do we need a coupon if there's no coupon required?"
"You just need to print this and bring it in"
"But it says no coupon required!?!"

At this point we realized dude was not budging at all and seemed to see nothing wrong with the fact they needed us to print off the 'coupon' that says directly on it, 'no coupon required.'  We Lis even attempted to show him the email, which he again refused by saying AGAIN for like the 4th time, "I know what it says."

Will someone please help me understand how and why you are requiring a coupon when it says NO COUPONS REQUIRED!!! Cause I'm really confused right now!

We walked away utterly confused, frustrated, and empty-handed.  Drowned our sorrows by shopping at Target and spending way too much, only to kick an empty crushed blizzard in the parking lot on our way out.  We were confused, hungry, and angry!!! It was a sad sad time for the Pyper/Thomson duo in DC!

But, don't worry this post gets even longer and the story even more ridiculous.  We went back the next day with coupons in hand,  with "The best part about it is that there are no coupons to hand in and no memberships to sign." highlighted ready to get our cheap blizzard goodness.  (I hope all males out there understand, it's really just not a good idea to mess with a girl who wants her treat... really it's not- just don't go there!)

We walked in to see that Dude was working again, but to his luck the other register opened first.  We stepped up excitedly and informed Dude-wanna-be  that we would like our 25¢ blizzard.  To which Dude-wanna-be tells us, "uh oh we're not participating in that." "UH well Dude over there told us that if we brought this coupon in we could get them." Pointing, "This guy?" "YEA, that guy" I think there was some muttering here and a glance between them, but thankfully Dude somewhat redeemed himself (only a little... I'll still call him Dude) and Dude-wanna-be came through even though he wouldn't take my attempt at an insult, the highlighted coupon, and we  finally got our Ooey Gooey Carmel Brownie and Double Fudge Cookie Dough Blizzards.

Yea for blizzards. And yea for cheap blizzards.  They should have been number 2 though.  :(
My final thought is Mr. Manager has no clue.  Sadly there is no other way to say it,
DQ you failed me.  I'm usually one to complain, but Mr. Manager, Dairy Queen Corporate, you will be hearing from me.  You don't mess with a girl and her blizzard, and with the thousands (and just so we are clear I'm not exaggerating here!)  I've spent on them in the past, I think I deserve a little $ break every now and then!

And if anyone has any insider DQ/Fast Food info, please enlighten me, because I'm still just trying to wrap my mind around this... No Coupon required should me no coupon required right!?  Yea, I'm still confused.

Read for yourself and go test your local DQ!

The Headboard Saga

Do your best to look past these 2 munchkins and what do you see?! Besides 4 other unfinished projects? (Yes I counted them... nightstands need to painted, lampshades need to be replaced with something bigger, curtains need to be hung instead of towels (seriously!), and decorative pillows need to be made and/or bought... and that's just 1 picture in 1 room... my life is full of projects in the waiting right now!)

Well if you can look past all of that you will see a beautiful handmade headboard! Thanks to Lis and her persuasion, enthusiasum, and persistance; my hubbies mad skills with a rip saw, desire for me to actually finish a project, and willingness to help desire to get our house back in order; and last but not least :) my crazy ideas, blogging addiction, and inadequate/incorrect plans... both households have rockin' headboards! (How's that for a run-on!?)

We drew out plans Friday night for these beauties, went to Home Depot at 9:00 at night to "price them out" or so I thought, and came back with the materials to build them.

Add a snow storm into the mix and you get a weekend full of building a headboard in your living room, including, but most definitely not limited to... drilling, sanding, and painting!  Hey at least we Tyson saved the sawing for outside on our front porch, I'm sure our neighbors got a kick out of that one.

We're absolutely giddy about them!

Hallie's Haircut

Before:

After:
Much better!

The ever-evolving drama of twins...

People frequently ask me if having twins has gotten easier, for the most part I can answer yes.  I don't frequently find myself sitting on the couch crying like I did the first few months. (Exhaustion, lack of sleep, and wacked out hormones, and a hubby who works 60+ hrs a week will do that to ya!) In a lot of ways it is so much easier, but easier is a relative term. Does parenting ever become easy? I don't think it does for anyone, each stage in childhood and parenthood has it's unique challenges.

With all of that being said, this morning was one of those moments that pops up frequently at this stage.  We are potty training Hallie, for the most part it's gone pretty well, just time consuming and I feel like I've spent the last week in the bathroom! Well last night Micah decided he wanted to sit on the toilet too... right at bedtime.  So I let him go because I didn't want to discourage him telling me he needs to go.  So bless his little heart he sat on the toilet for probably a total of 30 minutes.  (With a break to take him back to bed twice, both times telling me he had to go again.) He was trying SO hard, grunting and all just to go pee.  I could see him trying to figure out what muscles to use and everything... hilarious.  I love watching the wheels turn! And he did go! Hooray for Micah!

But now to get to the actual point of this post... I now have double the time in the bathroom, which means that the one who's not going to the bathroom has more unsupervised time than usual. (Which is a constant struggle at this stage with 2 year olds who like to get into as much mischief as they can!)  I came out to find that Hallie had decided to pour herself some more cereal this morning.  I had a feeling she was being too quiet! She had dumped the remainder of the bag out, filled her bowl to the brim and dumped Micah's bowl onto his plate, milk and cereal.

I honestly feel like I am running damage control like this all the time! And I know this stage will pass and soon I will wonder when on earth they got to be so big, but still the messes! Oh the messes!!!!!!

"Let's Roll"

Micah grabbed this toy from my hands Wednesday morning after my niece Rylee was born and instantly called it "Micah's suitcase." He then went on to walk around the house for the next 10 minutes saying various things like, "C'mon momma, let's roll" "Going to the airport" "Let's go home" "Micah's ready, BYE!" All this while dragging it around pretending it was his suitcase.  I guess he wants to go meet Rylee as bad as I do!

I just can't help myself!

I laugh everytime I look at these pictures.  I can hear them laughing at each other.  It's really so fun to watch them really interact and play with each other.  Bottom line is I love these kiddos, they make me smile! :)

Thomas, Percy, and Henry

This kid loves his trains, seriously. First thing he does every morning is grab the trio of Thomas, Percy, and Henry.  He'll drive them on the TV stand, the toy shelf in their room, their table, my leg, the couch, and pretty much any other surface he can find.  I really should time him someday to figure out how long he plays with them each day, I'm pretty sure it's probably a couple hours each day. Crazy kid, love him to pieces!
